Position: Finance Manager

Location: Machakos.

Job Summary:

The Finance Manager will be tasked with managing the financial health of UDO, ensuring compliance with all relevant donor and legal regulations, and implementing effective financial systems. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of non-profit financial management practices. This position requires a strategic thinker with a passion for transparency and accountability in financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and continually review financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure financial transparency and organizational accountability.
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage annual budgets, financial forecasts, and comprehensive financial reports for key stakeholders, including donors, the management team, and the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee all financial transactions, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and the disbursement of grants.
  • Ensure that UDO’s financial activities comply with national regulations, tax laws, and specific donor requirements.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow, while identifying and mitigating financial risks.
  • Lead audit processes and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, ensuring that documentation and financial activities meet compliance standards.
  • Provide financial analysis and strategic recommendations to the senior management team and Board, supporting informed decision-making.
  • Lead capacity-building initiatives for program staff, offering training and support in financial management practices, budgeting, and donor compliance.
  • Work closely with other departments to optimize financial efficiency, sustainability, and resource allocation across all projects.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business administration, or a related field. A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • Professional qualification in CPA (K) or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial management, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked in the NGO sector.
  • At least 2 years’ experience as an Assistant Finance Manager in the NGO sector.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in financial reporting, grant management, and donor compliance.
  • Proven ability to prepare proposals to attract grants.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, SAGE), as well as advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage audits and work effectively with external stakeholders.

 

Position: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Machakos.

Job Purpose:

The CEO will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight, ensuring UDO achieves its mission, goals and objectives. This role requires working closely with the Board of Directors, staff, partners, and other stakeholders to ensure effective execution of projects, financial sustainability, and overall organizational success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of the organization’s strategic goals and objectives, ensuring alignment with UDO’s vision and mission.
  • Drive fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor relations, and building strategic partnerships to secure sustainable funding.
  • Ensure sound financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, and efficient resource allocation.
  • Cultivate and maintain good relationships with donors, government agencies, community participants, and other key stakeholders to strengthen UDO’s impact.
  • Ensure that the organization adheres to legal, regulatory, and governance frameworks, upholding transparency and accountability in all processes.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs to ensure they address community needs and meet UDO’s strategic objectives.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation, leading and empowering a diverse, high-performing team.
  • Represent UDO at public forums, donor meetings, and advocacy events, promoting the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Develop and implement systems to monitor and evaluate program outcomes, ensuring continuous improvement and measurable impact.
  • Strengthen UDO’s internal structures, policies, and operational processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness across all levels.
  • Identify potential risks to UDO’s operations and sustainability, implementing mitigation strategies to safeguard the organization’s future.
  • Leverage technology and innovative practices to improve project delivery, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Stay informed about sector trends to adopt best practices.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Community Development, Business Administration, International Development, or a related field. A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • A postgraduate professional qualification.
  • At least 5 years of senior leadership experience in the non-profit or development sector, with a proven track record in fundraising, financial management, and program execution.
  • Strong servant and authentic leadership, strategic planning, and organizational development skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
